As the last throws of the summer heat fade and Autumn approaches, I have another manuscript polished and ready to pitch.
Now this is the same manuscript I pitched two years ago, same in story and yet completely rewritten. Two years ago, I set this manuscript aside due to timing. When our hearts ached to be free of covid, few wanted to read a manuscript that began in a gruesome, devastating battlefield. Amid agent rejections last Spring for my other manuscript, I decided Ari deserved a second chance. The only problem was that, not only had my writing voice changed, but so had my world.
So last May, I began rewriting it, making my character voicier and bronzifying the story. Ari’s pluckier, lovably sarcastic and still gets her impressions wrong all the time. Now, she’s ready to shine. And the fantastic thing is it only took me five months to revise it. Granted, it’s 30k shorter than my other manuscript, but it still gives me a decent timeline of how fast I can produce and polish a whole manuscript (with the limited time I have to work on them).
Next week, I begin pitching. I’m nervous. Currently, I’m waiting for a final round of feedback on my first chapter. I revised it last weekend, based on mixed results I’ve had with the read throughs. Those who previously read my work loved it (because they already knew the character), while first-time readers couldn’t quite latch on. I want this first chapter attachable to all genre readers, so I revised it.
Once I get the go ahead, I’m going to begin pitching A RAVEN’S WRATH.
