It’s been a manic few weeks. In general, plans and tasks required of me absolutely exploded after school started. I’m only just beginning to recover, taking the last two weekends of doing nothing.
Of course, for me, “doing nothing” actually means I can sit write endlessly… besides getting the house ready for rain. And, since I’m actually done editing my manuscript, writing endlessly means major revisions and updates on the next manuscript. (Yay, drafty creative word explosion and not paragraph and sentence honing.)
Since I last blogged, I’ve sent out my manuscript to be read, and received feedback. I’ve cut and cut and cut and cut my synopsis into 500ish word count, which is incredible, given that both a 70k word book and a 120k word book both have to be summarized into 500 words… It’s brutal. What I end up with is something more story-driven, because I haven’t got the word count to really do a decent character arch. In the end…
I began submitting to agents again this week. I got all strange about it. Even though I had all my material ready, researched the agents I wanted to submit to, it still took a long time, remembering all the little formatting things necessary. Even now, I’m not sure if I got them all correct. It’s a slow process though. I’ve seen more agents posting again on #MSWL than in September, which is wonderful. Also, I was happy to see what fit in a 10 sample pages, overjoyed to see what fit in 20 sample pages, and not too pleased with what fit in 5…
Oh well. I’m still excited to see what comes back.
