By Joe Abercrombie.
This was the first novel I’ve read that conveys the darkness of character, politics and circumstance that is similar to GOT. The manipulations and ugliness of situations is almost sickening at times, enough that I had to read through to the end to make myself feel better. I loved how this had very little magic in it too, also similar to GOT, and involved male narratives, which is actually a bit difficult to find these days. I’ve been looking for books that balance both the male and female narration, and don’t just stick females into typical male character narratives. Also, I enjoyed the variation of ages in the narrators, each having their own elusive objectives and not just sidelining older characters as sidekicks.
So yes. I was pleased to find a suitable comp title for my Curse of Crows manuscript in this one.
