I loved the idea of non-magic possessing people created restraint bracelets, and then tying in a fun mythos of demons who got released. On the whole, you can pick any singular page in this book, and the writing is simply gorgeous, full of short phrases that describe beautifully. I wanted to immerse myself more in this book, but I felt the characters seemed more out of a YA novel, in both plotline (coming into your own) and in general lack of characters that are not young adults. Also, given the stakes, I had a hard time buying why anyone would trust putting the protagonist in charge, though all signs seem to indicate there’s other reasons we’ll find out in the next book. This book leaned too heavily into the YA genre to work as a comp title, though it was a fun read. Also, bonus in these troubled times, it’s light-hearted enough that it will not bring down your week with heart breaking character choices.
