This one falls more into the SciFy realm, but I loved the concept of this one (and it’s short length.) With most fantasy novels beginning at 450 pages, anything under that is quite refreshing. I loved the idea of multiple universes, dropping into each of them, but only if your self from that universe is dead. I also loved the dichotomy of the wealthy city that created this technology, but only those coming from severely disadvantaged situations can do the world jumping (because most of their former selves are dead.) The author definitely makes use of the argument “environment shapes the person”, but I’m not sure I ever read any concepts from this book that I haven’t seen elsewhere. I like that the characters are rugged and tough, and perhaps I was looking for more internal struggles the way The Broken Earth series lays open it’s characters, but something came up unsatisfactory with it that I wish I could place my finger on better. The pacing and story is very engaging though, and an exciting read.
