Encouraged to read this by my husband, who reads esoteric books like The Emerald Table, Dune was also flagged as being a good example of duel narrators that switches between characters frequently in chapters (rather than each chapter being from a singular character’s perspective). Granted this was written in the 70’s, the amount of pure dialogue (as opposed to world building) surprised me. The heavy philosophical question, even in the beginning, impressed me. Reading it, as opposed to watching the various TV/Movie versions, brought a greater depth to characters and the reason behind the elevation of Paul to savor level. Though I still think, if the new movie remark did not have Paul being played by a paisley white guy, they might have more resonance in our age. Though this book attributes high and hidden technological advancements to fremen surviving on a desert planet, it still plays that same old motif of the “superior” white guy coming and claiming all the powers that the “brown” people developed so they could worship him… Yeah…
